The thing about SXSW is that you can’t do everything. In fact, you can barely take in a fraction of what’s on offer at the annual Interactive, Film, and Music conference. Between the hundreds of panels, official and unofficial parties and events, pop-up shops, screenings, performances, and surprises, trying to maintain even the loosest of agendas can be difficult. In a way, though, that’s the beauty of it. The SXSW experience becomes as much about the things you’re delighted to stumble upon as the ones you spent weeks anticipating.
This year’s Interactive conference has already included appearances by everyone from Julian Assange (remotely) to Grumpy Cat, so regardless of your personal inclinations, it’s easy to find your niche. Seth Myers and Jimmy Kimmel are both in town, Wes Anderson is presenting his latest film in person, and Edward Snowden is speaking today (also remotely, natch). Kevin Bacon discussed the history of “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” and its surprising, enduring impact. There was real-life Mario Karting and a virtual Game of Thrones experience. Even Shaq was seen wandering the trade-show floor.
But like we said, that’s all barely scratching the surface. Check out some photos from our team in Austin below, and we’ll get back out there to keep catching as much of what’s going on as we can. SXSW Interactive continues through tomorrow (March 11), SXSW Film runs through Saturday (March 15), and SXSW Music runs from March 11-16.
